Introduction
This technical note discusses how to determine the number of licenses needed for Client/Server installations and the approximate cost.
Discussion
The number of users that access the server
at
any one time is referred to as the number of "concurrent" users.
The server manages or limits the number of concurrent users based on
the
licenses purchased for both the server engine and the
application.
The following examples illustrates typical client/server
installations.
Example 1: Installation for 2
concurrent users
(Basic "2" user license)
This will allow two users to access the
database
system concurrently from any of the PCs (or Macs) within the office.
Single physician office
(1) Physician (part to full time)
(1) Receptionist (full time for registration & billing)

Hardware:Example 2: Installation for 8 concurrent users (Basic "5" user license plus expansion packs)
(1) Server (Windows 2000 or XP) or (Macintosh acting as server)
